Great Mechanical Personalites

1.Leonardo da Vinci

Foe his designs he qualified as the most remarkable engineer of all the time

2.Thomas Edison

Edison was a prolific inventor, holding 1,093 US patents in his name as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. More significant than the number of Edison's patents was the widespread impact of his invention.

3.Henry Ford

Henry Ford was an American industrialist, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, and sponsor of the development of the assembly line technique of mass production.
Although Ford did not invent the automobile or the assembly line, he developed and manufactured the first automobile that many middle class Americans could afford.
He looked at industries and found four principles that would further their goal: interchangeable parts, continuous flow division of labor, and reducing wasted effort.
He is the first person who introduced weekend as a holiday to company employees.

4.The Wright brothers

They gained the mechanical skills essential for their success by working for years in their shop with printing presses, bicycles, motors, and other machinery. Their work with bicycles in particular influenced their belief that an unstable vehicle like a flying machine could be controlled and balanced with practice.

Most prototypes of the time could not stay in the air long enough after taking off. The Wright brothers however understood that stability was crucial in overcoming this challenge. After several experiments using kites and gliders, they created a pulley system that altered the shape of the wing in mid-flight, increasing and decreasing the speeds. The Wright brothers were also the first to look at propeller design and aerodynamics, profoundly changing the world.

5.Hero of Alexandria

Hero published a well recognized description of a steam-powered device called an aeolipile (sometimes called a "Hero engine"). Among his most famous inventions was a windwheel, constituting the earliest instance of wind harnessing on land.He is said to have been a follower of the atomists. Some of his ideas were derived from the works of Ctesibius.
Much of Hero's original writings and designs have been lost, but some of his works were preserved in Arabic manuscripts.

6.James Watt

James Watt was an enthusiastic inventor whose improvement of the steam engine sparked the Industrial Revolution and mechanical engineer whose improvements to the Newcomen steam engine were fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world. He developed the concept of horsepower, and the SI unit of power, the watt, was named after him.

7.Nicolaus Otto

.Nicolaus Otto was an German inventor credited with developing the Otto or Four Stroke engine which sparked the development of motor care. His Otto-Cycle engine works in four steps:

  1. Drawing in fuel and Air
  2. Compressing the Mixture
  3. Igniting it
  4. Expelling the Exhaust.
This Otto-Cycle is still used in Internal Combustion (IC) Engines that run all of our cars today.
